Opioid settlement funds: county by county

More than $50B in opioid settlement money is going to states and localities, and each one decides its own uses. Counties are already buying mobile units with it.

What it is

Settlement money from the opioid litigation, paid to states and localities. It fits mobile addiction treatment, harm reduction and outreach units.

How the money flows

State and county settlement councils decide how their share is spent: hundreds of separate decisions, each on its own calendar. None of it shows up as a federal listing on Grants.gov. NASHP tracks how the states administer the funds.

Whether a vehicle qualifies

Decided locally. Counties are already buying mobile units with settlement money, so a unit is an allowed use where the council says so. Ask your county or state council directly.

Stacking sources

Settlement money often covers the vehicle while RHTP or an HRSA grant covers the program. See RHTP and HRSA.

Common mistakes

  • Waiting for a listing. Settlement rounds are local and rarely posted nationally.
  • The three mistakes every family shares: over-specifying, under-budgeting delivery, and missing the equipment line.

From HLE's Oct 7, 2026 review of Grants.gov and the state program pages. Where a source said "check the NOFO" or "not verified," this page says so too. HLE does not determine eligibility or write applications. We supply the vehicle and the documents about it.
